Tweed rides are becoming increasingly popular, popping up throughout the country. While tweed isn’t often the perfect attire for Dallas weather, with a little luck it’ll be crisp December 8 when cyclists swarm the Grassy Knoll for a Tweed Ride.
As you might expect the idea of a Tweed Ride seems to have originated in Merry Old England- London in fact where any bicycle is acceptable on the Tweed Run, but classic vintage bicycles are encouraged. Almost needless to say, tweed is even more encouraged.
But here in Dallas, and elsewhere in the U.S., tweed may come in more limited quantities, but the vintage inspiration is unmistakable. Here as there, participants have a merry time.
The Tweed Ride is sponsored by Bike Friendly Oak Cliff. Here’s a video of a 2010 event.
